Our vision is to make Europe independent from fossil fuels, especially oil and natural gas. The goal is to replace the centralized supply of fossil fuels for heating, which accounts for more than 73% of the fossil fuel usage and is responsible for 57% of all CO2 emissions in the EU-28 region. The first domain to attack is the residential heating sector that accounts for the biggest share of the energy consumption (ca. 40%).

Gensoric introduces the worldwide first residential power-to-liquid and CO2 usage system. Our willpower system empowers everybody to produce his own fuel at home from surrounding resources: CO2, water, and electricity. The core is an internationally patent-protected electro-biocatalytical process technology to convert atmospheric CO2 into methanol. The clean and easy-to-handle energy carrier methanol can be stored and used for heating or electricity generation. CO2 can be captured regularly from the atmosphere or re-captured continuously from conversion processes.

Current status: start of pilot trials in 2016. Gensoric's willpower project is one of the few European Innovation Champions funded by H2020 SME-Instrument Stage 2. The grant is used to conduct pilot trials in close collaboration with partners such as Skytree, Fraunhofer and the Helmholtz Institutes (Germany). Through the combination of willpower's proprietary technology "Electrochemistry at directly heated electrodes" and the biocatalytical conversion of CO2 into methanol, the activity and yield of the reactions could be increased up to factor 50 without modifying the current state-of-the-art enzymes.
